EDFI launches €12 M carbon sinks scheme

Through EFSD+ funding, introducing the EDFI Carbon Sinks initiative in October 2024, the Western Balkans received support aimed at creating and conserving natural carbon sinks across all six economies. With €12 million in loan guarantees and €0.6 million for technical assistance, the scheme backs forestry, wetland restoration, sustainable agriculture, and carbon credit initiatives. It brings private firms, smallholders, and funds into projects that deliver GHG reductions, biodiversity restoration, and community benefits.
