A shared regional strategy for carbon pricing
In The News
At the Ministerial Council of the Energy Community, officials discussed a bold proposal: a coordinated regional carbon pricing mechanism, set to be chosen by the end of 2025. Options include a joint ETS, a carbon tax, a fixed-price system, or a hybrid. The logic? A united approach promises to stem carbon leakage, streamline capacity building, and create a more compelling landscape for green investment.
Ministers signaled their intent, backed by EU Commission assessments, and pledged to submit their country’s preferred approach to the Secretariat. A decision, it seems, could materialize by mid-2025, laying the groundwork for regional rollout before the CBAM deadline.
